Raised Plaster Stencils make awesome borders at chair rail height, against the ceiling or at the baseboard level.

I used this design to create moldings in a room where none existed. It was great! Not only did I create what appeared to be real, carved moldings, but I realized, I really didn’t have to go to the trouble of putting up real molding after all!

Stencil idea:

Border stencils used to be most popular at the top of walls. Now, chair rail height is the preferred wall placement for border stencils. Paint the area above the border one color and the area below the border another color to give your room an updated, modern look.
