Two Toned Layered  Stenciling

Step 1

Step 2

Another Example

I love the look of layered stenciling. It gives your walls or decorated piece more dimension and interest than using the stencil in a one dimensional pattern.

I like starting with a soft, sponged or faux finished background to set the stage for the stenciling. To achieve that soft look, simply blend, blend, blend you two colors with your sponge until they nearly disappear in to one another, leaving only a hint of the differences in colors on the wall.

Choose a single stencil design such as our Raised Plaster Leaf Vine Stencil as I did for this design.

Step 1  I applied the stencil in a random pattern over the wall in a rich, soft brown.

Step 2 Using the same stencil, I now add the same design in gold around and over the top of the previous stenciled elements.  See how the wall changes?

In the lower example, Johanna Annable of Johanna's Design Studio, layered our Raised Plaster Aspen Tree branch over faux finished walls first in silver metallic paint, again in a light gold metallic tone and then lastly in a deep gold metallic.

The results are exquisite and give the wall super dimension and elegance.

So try any one of our designs in this easy to do and super fun technique for walls that will give you home a new look with little expense yet provide lots of flexibility and style.
