Plaster Stenciling Adds Detail to an Already Gorgeous Room

Lee Baer and I have shared many emails back and forth over these past months. When she described this room to me, I couldn't wait to see it.

Lee and I have the same decorating style. She has an insight and a way of bringing things together than few people naturally possess. We have to work at it but to her it seems to come naturally.

In examining her beautiful bedroom, I want you to notice her use of colors and materials.

Starting with the window treatments of a deep olive green. Her choice gives the windows detail, elegance and texture. The curved lines mimic the curvature of the tray ceiling. They are ornate but not at all over done.

A coordinating green was used on the drop portion of the ceiling with a deeper green of the same shade used on the inset which brings the window treatment color up to ceiling level.

Our Raised Plaster Oxford Panel was plastered on the inset which draws in the white of the actual ceiling and walls.

Pillows of the same tones were used to bring the green color scheme in to the lower portion of the room.

Her choice of a red oriental carpet gave additional color to the room. Pillows on the settee were chosen to reflect this color as well and bring the color duo together.

Designer's tip:

When you struggle with just how to decorate a room, find a photo of a style that really speaks to you then examine "why" you like it. Is it the colors? Placement? Furnishings? Now run with that new information, using the same principals to create a look that you really love in your own home.
